CJC 2026 Proposed Rules Update - Oct 2026 Update
Attached are the proposed rules of the Canberra Japan Club to be considered as a Special Resolution at an Extraordinary General Meeting in November 2026
- Committee Notices
The Committee of the Canberra Japan Club invites members to review the Proposed Rules of the Club as attached below which will be voted on as a Special Resolution at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to be held on Saturday 28th October 2026 at 10:40am in the Staff Room at Alfred Deakin High School.
A previous version of these Proposed Rules was circulated in September 2026 and can be found here.
At the Annual General Meeting held on Saturday 24th October 2026, two changes were proposed to these rules. While the changes had the general support of the members present, and a vote was held to accept the new Rules along with the changes made in the meeting, that vote was subsequently found to be procedurally invalid. Under the Associations Incorporation Act 1991, a special resolution must be voted on in substantially the same form as notified to members at least 21 days before the meeting. The two substantive amendments made at the AGM meant this requirement was not met and the special resolution was invalid and had no effect.
The special resolution must therefore be tabled and voted on again, with the amended Rules notified to members in accordance with the required procedures.
Please find below a copy of the amended proposed Rules to be voted on at the EGM.
Notice of the EGM was sent to active members by post on 1st November 2026.
