Japanese Language Education
Discover CJC’s Saturday learning communities, where children build confidence in Japanese and connect through culture.
CJC supports two complementary programmes: CJC Japanese Kindergarten for younger children and CJC Canberra Japanese Language School for school-aged learners. Both meet at Alfred Deakin High School on Saturdays during school terms.
Learning extends beyond vocabulary and writing. Stories, songs, craft, projects, cultural experiences and seasonal celebrations give children meaningful reasons to listen, speak and create in Japanese.
Ages 3–6
CJC Japanese Kindergarten
A warm, playful setting where young children hear, speak and express themselves in Japanese. Stories, songs, movement, games and craft help children enjoy small successes and grow comfortable using the language with others.

Learning through play
Language, numbers, colours and the seasons are explored through movement, experiments and short presentations. Children also practise sharing their ideas and reading aloud, with activities designed to recognise each child’s progress.

- Colour-mixing experiments and seasonal craft
- A signed song and dance performance at the CJC festival
- Japanese festival experiences including yo-yo fishing and raffles

Japanese school years 1–junior high
CJC Canberra Japanese Language School
A place for children to think, ask questions and work with friends in Japanese. Literacy learning is combined with sensory cultural experiences and collaborative projects, helping Japanese become a living language for communication.

Learning by using Japanese
Alongside reading and writing, students discuss themes and find words for what they observe and experience. Classroom learning leads into practical projects, festival preparation and stage presentations.

- A tea ceremony experience, preparing matcha for parents
- A festival quiz performance in student-made tie-dyed T-shirts
- Festival stalls with seedlings, a sausage sizzle and a string lottery
